Businesses in Scotland have the opportunity to bid for a portion of up to £7 million in funding allocated by the Scottish Government to support green hydrogen projects. The funding aims to assist in covering the development stage costs for projects that have a production capacity ranging from 5 to 400 megawatts. This capacity could produce enough hydrogen to heat a significant number of homes in Scotland. Additionally, support will be extended to activities that bolster the hydrogen supply chain and storage solutions, crucial for industry scaling and meeting market demands. The application process, managed by Scottish Enterprise, allows organizations to seek a maximum of £2 million in match-funding until the end of the month. This initiative complements the existing funding from the Hydrogen Innovation Scheme, which has already backed 31 projects across the country since 2023. The Acting Minister for Climate Action emphasized the importance of the energy sector, particularly the development of green hydrogen, in driving Scotland's economy and achieving net zero targets. The Minister highlighted Scotland's renewable energy potential as a key driver in green hydrogen production. The fund is expected to unlock opportunities in hydrogen utilization and export, benefiting both local and international markets. The Scottish Enterprise Director of Energy Transition expressed the critical nature of this fund in kickstarting new green hydrogen projects to advance Scotland's hydrogen economy. The deadline for organizations to express interest in the fund is the 27th of September, reflecting the commitment to accelerating renewable energy and hydrogen production in Scotland.
