SECI Launches Tender for Green Ammonia Production in India
Key Ideas
  • SECI in India is accepting bids to produce and supply 539,000 metric tonnes of green ammonia annually for the fertilizer industry.
  • Successful bidders will be eligible for incentives under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition Scheme.
  • Eleven projects will be allocated, with a maximum capacity of 539,000 mtpa per bidder, allowing flexibility in project location within India.
  • Producers will be responsible for setting up production facilities, storage, and transportation of green ammonia at their own cost.
Solar Energy Corp. of India (SECI) has initiated a tender to facilitate the production and supply of green ammonia to prominent fertilizer manufacturers in India. The tender aims to allocate a total green ammonia capacity of 539,000 metric tonnes per year through an e-bidding and e-reverse auction process. Developers establishing facilities for green ammonia production will qualify for incentives under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Scheme, provided they meet the necessary criteria. SECI will serve as the intermediary procurer for the green ammonia from producers and its sale to fertilizer manufacturers. The agreements between SECI and producers will span over a 10-year period. The tender specifies that up to eleven projects will be awarded, with a maximum cumulative capacity of 539,000 metric tonnes per annum per bidder. Project locations can be chosen anywhere in India by the green ammonia producers, with the delivery point designated as the factory of the procurer. Producers are mandated to establish production facilities, including storage and transportation to the delivery point, to enhance green ammonia production in India. The responsibility of land identification for project setup lies with the producer. This initiative showcases a positive step towards sustainability and promoting green technology within the Indian fertilizer industry.
