Sembcorp, a Singapore-based company, has initiated the construction of a green ammonia plant in Tuticorin, India, to produce 200,000 metric tonnes of green ammonia annually for export to Japan. The project, spanning 160 acres, is strategically located in Tuticorin's port area. This endeavor stems from a partnership agreement involving Sembcorp Green Hydrogen, Kyushu Electric Power Co., Sojitz Corp., and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha to facilitate cross-border green ammonia trade. The plant's construction follows a Memorandum of Understanding between Sembcorp and the Tamil Nadu government to establish a green ammonia facility, aiming to stimulate local employment and foster the region's progress. Sembcorp's broader energy portfolio of 21.2 GW, with a significant renewable energy capacity of 14.4 GW, including 4.7 GW in India, underscores its commitment to sustainable energy initiatives.
