The Spanish Government has announced €794m ($859m) in state aid to support seven green hydrogen projects, adding 650MW of new electrolyser capacity. This significant investment is part of Spain's strategy to lead in green hydrogen production in Europe, capitalizing on its abundant wind and solar resources. The projects receiving funding, approved by the European Commission under the Hy2Use scheme, include ventures by major companies like Petronor, Repsol, EDP, Enel Green Power, IAM Caecius, and Iberdrola. The aim is to drive the development of green hydrogen technologies and infrastructure across the country. With an additional €1.14bn ($1.2bn) in immediate investment planned, the Energy Minister, Teresa Ribera, emphasized Spain's commitment to decarbonisation and renewable energy. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez previously stated the government's ambition to establish Spain as a global leader in decarbonisation through renewable hydrogen. The announcement signals a total of €900m ($973m) allocated for 10 key projects focusing on hydrogen production, transport, and technology development. This move aligns with Spain's broader goal of transitioning towards sustainable and clean energy sources, showcasing a positive step towards a greener future.
