  • The project will have a capacity of 1.1 million tonnes per annum and aims to export to European markets to meet Renewable Fuels regulations.
  • Topsoe's ammonia technology offers flexibility to adjust production based on fluctuating renewable energy supplies, with a ramp-up/down rate of at least 3% per minute.
  • The project, to be developed in phases, plans to be operational by 2027 with a first phase capacity of 750 tonnes per day.
Hygenco has appointed Topsoe as the licensor for ammonia synthesis technology in Odisha, India, to facilitate the conversion of green hydrogen into ammonia for export. The project, to be located at Tata Steel’s Special Economic Zone Industrial Park in Gopalpur, will have a significant capacity of 1.1 million tonnes per annum. Topsoe will provide not only the DynAMMO™ technology but also engineering design hardware and catalysts for the plant. Planned to be executed in three phases, the first phase is expected to be operational by 2027 and will have a daily green ammonia capacity of 750 tonnes. Amit Bansal, Hygenco's CEO, expressed enthusiasm about utilizing Topsoe's advanced technology to enhance green ammonia production effectively. The project aims to meet the Renewable Fuels regulations of the EU by exporting its output to European markets. Topsoe's ammonia technology stands out for its adaptability to varying renewable energy supplies, offering a ramp-up/down rate of at least 3% per minute. Elena Scaltritti, Topsoe's Chief Commercial Officer, looks forward to collaborating with Hygenco on this initiative. The project is also supported by a 1.1GW renewable energy tender launched by Hygenco to ensure green power supply. This project highlights the joint effort towards decarbonization and scaling up green ammonia production for a sustainable future.
