The UK government has announced plans to allocate GBP2.3 billion in revenue support to 11 green hydrogen projects, with a total capacity of 125 MW. This funding, confirmed in the new Labour government's first budget, aims to promote the development and adoption of green hydrogen in the country. The projects will receive support for 15 years to bridge the cost gap between renewable hydrogen generation and market prices, ensuring their economic viability. The Low Carbon Contracts Company will facilitate the process by offering contracts to enable the projects to advance. The successful projects, spread across various regions in the UK, will cater to 35 offtakers, displacing the use of fossil fuels. The strike prices, averaging at GBP241/MWh, have been deemed competitive, signaling a positive outlook for the green hydrogen sector. This initiative aligns with the UK's efforts towards achieving net-zero emissions and transitioning to a more sustainable energy landscape.
