UK Energy Storage (UKEn) has entered into two agreements with Portland Port Limited (PPL) in the UK for hydrogen import, storage, and electrolysis support, aiming to establish a green hydrogen energy hub in South Dorset. The agreements include plans for importing green hydrogen in carrier liquids for storage and exploring green hydrogen production using excess local renewable energy. The partnership also envisions using hydrogen to power generation within Portland Port, supporting UKEn's activities in the South Dorset salt cavern storage site and the wider region. The close proximity of UKEn's storage site and PPL's deep-water port presents an opportunity to create a significant green hydrogen energy hub, contributing to the decarbonization of the South and Southwest of England, the Solent Cluster, and the broader UK energy system. The agreements come as UKOG's Chief Executive, Stephen Sanderson, highlights the potential for revenue support in the government's hydrogen storage procurement process, boosted by the new hydrogen initiatives. The relocation of UKEn's hydrogen storage site to a new location in Dorset is expected to reduce costs and enhance the company's competitive edge. The future integration of the Hydrogen Battery concept and offshore wind power projects further strengthen UKEn's position in the UK's energy landscape.
