Nanotechnology startup Vimano has successfully raised INR 25 crore in a seed funding round led by Ankur Capital, a venture capital firm. This investment signifies the first funding from Ankur Capital's third fund and will be utilized to further the development of Vimano's membrane technology geared towards enabling large-scale energy transition solutions. Founded in 2019 by materials scientists Murari Ramkumar and Dr. Nagesh Kini, Vimano focuses on creating ion-conductive membranes that can enhance the efficiency and reduce the cost of crucial energy technologies like redox flow batteries, electrolyzers for green hydrogen production, and PEM fuel cells. The company's membrane platform, a result of five years of dedicated research, aims to enhance conductivity, performance, efficiency, and lifespan while minimizing crossover. The recently acquired capital will enable Vimano to progress with pilot projects alongside energy sector partners, facilitate recruitment efforts, and establish scalable manufacturing capacities for their proprietary membranes. Ramkumar, co-founder of Vimano, expressed optimism about the investment's ability to expedite commercialization efforts and introduce their high-performance membranes to the market on a large scale.
