Energy company Axpo has initiated the construction of its second Swiss green hydrogen plant in Bürglen, Switzerland. The 2MW H2Uri project, in collaboration with Schätzle, EWA-Energi Uri, and SGV, aims to produce 260 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. This hydrogen will be utilized to power a passenger vessel on Lake Lucerne, emphasizing the shift towards sustainable maritime transport. The electrolyser at the plant will be supplied with green electricity from EWA's nearby hydropower plant. Additionally, Axpo plans to expand its green hydrogen production with a new plant in Wildegg-Brugg, further emphasizing its commitment to the hydrogen ecosystem. Despite challenges faced by the hydrogen sector, Axpo's Head of Power Plants and Green Gases, Guy Bühler, remains optimistic about hydrogen's decarbonisation potential. The company's prior experience with a green hydrogen plant in Domat/Ems has laid the groundwork for this new endeavor. The collaborative efforts in constructing these green hydrogen plants highlight the importance of partnerships in advancing sustainable energy solutions. Axpo's proactive approach aligns with Switzerland's focus on transitioning towards cleaner energy sources.
