Caterpillar has enhanced its power solutions by integrating hydrogen capabilities with the introduction of Cat CG260 gas generator sets. These sets, available in 12- and 16-cylinder versions, are designed to operate on gas with up to 25% hydrogen content, providing 4.5 MW of electric power suitable for continuous, prime, and load management needs. Alongside the new CG260 models, Caterpillar offers retrofit kits to upgrade existing CG260 generator sets for hydrogen compatibility, broadening its range of hydrogen-powered solutions. By including hydrogen blending opportunities in models like CG132B, CG170B, CG260, and G3500H, Caterpillar aims to support customers in adopting lower carbon power generation strategies. Melissa Busen, Caterpillar's Vice President for Large Electric Power, expressed the company's commitment to assisting customers in integrating hydrogen-fueled systems to align with sustainability goals. Furthermore, since 2022, Caterpillar has introduced Cat G3516 gas generator sets capable of running on 100% hydrogen, with a maximum rating of 1000 kW for continuous applications. These sets are recommended for locations with abundant hydrogen resources, showcasing Caterpillar's proactive approach towards offering diverse and environmentally friendly power solutions.
