Key Ideas
- Emirates SkyCargo partners with Allied Transport Company to incorporate hydrogen-powered trucks by Q1 2026, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions and enhance air quality.
- The deployment of five hydrogen-powered trucks in the fleet, with a range of up to 700 kms per tank, will maintain cargo capacity with no compromise on efficiency.
- Both companies emphasize the importance of transitioning to cleaner fuel sources to support a sustainable logistics future and align with Emirates SkyCargo's environmental goals.
- The hydrogen trucks, refuelled at dedicated stations in Dubai, are seen as a significant step towards minimizing the environmental impact of ground operations.
Emirates SkyCargo, in partnership with Allied Transport Company, is set to integrate hydrogen-powered trucks into its ground operations fleet by the first quarter of 2026. These trucks, currently in production, will join the existing fleet of over 60 trucks and play a crucial role in transporting cargo between Dubai World Central (DWC) and Dubai International Airport (DXB) as well as the wider domestic region. The introduction of five hydrogen-powered trucks marks a key milestone in the transition to alternative fuel vehicles, with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions and improving air quality. The trucks, capable of carrying up to 28 tonnes of cargo, will be refuelled at two dedicated hydrogen stations in Dubai, providing a range of up to 700 kms per full tank.
Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, highlights the significance of this move in the company's emission reduction strategy, emphasizing the commitment to explore alternative fuels and technologies. Ali Bin Beyat, CEO of Allied Transport Company, shares the confidence in the environmental benefits of hydrogen trucks and stresses the importance of introducing cleaner and sustainable logistics solutions across the UAE. The compatibility of these hydrogen trucks with various cargo types ensures that Emirates SkyCargo can meet customer needs while promoting environmental sustainability. This initiative not only supports Emirates SkyCargo's sustainability objectives but also aligns with the UAE's vision for a greener future.
