FORVIA has introduced a groundbreaking hydrogen storage system for light commercial vehicles, featuring up to five second-generation composite carbon fiber tanks that can collectively store up to 9kg of hydrogen. Yves Dumoulin, Senior Vice-President Hydrogen Solutions at FORVIA, expressed pride in the company's innovative approach, highlighting their exclusive position as the sole supplier of the best-in-class zero-emission van globally. The system, targeted at light commercial vehicles, offers enhanced storage capacity and flexibility with options for side tanks, catering to vehicles with high daily mileage and payload requirements. Produced in Allenjoie, Eastern France, the second-generation tanks boast a 10% reduction in CO2e footprint per kilogram of hydrogen, achieved through a more sustainable manufacturing process. Furthermore, the tanks utilize less carbon fiber with a lower CO2 footprint, contributing to the system's affordability and environmental friendliness. By streamlining production at the Allenjoie plant and implementing a new high-capacity line, FORVIA has significantly improved production efficiency, quality, and flexibility, resulting in a fivefold reduction in production costs. The company's success was evident in the delivery of 11,000 hydrogen tanks in 2023, solidifying its position as a global leader in the industry. The hydrogen storage system for the New Renault Master H2-Tech will be presented at the IAA Transportation exhibition in Hannover, providing a platform for FORVIA to showcase its innovative solutions and engage with industry professionals.
