Greenlane's Expansion Plans for Nationwide Public Refueling Network
Key Ideas
  • Greenlane, in partnership with Daimler Truck North America and others, plans to develop up to 20 public refueling sites by the end of 2025 for battery-electric and hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks.
  • The first charging corridor will be in California along Interstate 15, with future expansion planned for the Pacific Northwest and the Dallas-Houston-San Antonio region.
  • Greenlane's CEO mentioned a strategic approach to site announcements, focusing on securing multiple sites before revealing their locations along a particular corridor.
  • The company aims to provide high-capacity charging stations initially and transition to megawatt charging systems as truck technology advances, with a focus on where carriers need them most.
Greenlane, in collaboration with Daimler Truck North America, renewable power developer NextEra Energy Resources, and BlackRock Alternatives, is set to establish a nationwide public refueling network for battery-electric and hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks. The venture aims to have around 20 sites operational by the end of 2025, starting with California, followed by the Pacific Northwest and the Dallas-Houston-San Antonio region. The first charging corridor will span 280 miles along Interstate 15 in Southern California, with facilities in Colton, Barstow, and Baker. Greenlane plans to strategically announce additional sites and corridors in the near future. The company's facility categories include standalone sites with 40-60 charging stations, sites integrated into existing truck stops, and facilities at dealerships or convenience stores. While there will be 60-90 miles between each Greenlane site, not all sites will offer hydrogen refueling initially. Greenlane's hydrogen refueling services will parallel the rollout of trucks by manufacturers like DTNA, with plans already underway. Initially, the charging stations will feature 400-kilowatt fast chargers, with provisions for upgrading to megawatt charging systems as truck technology progresses. These charging stations will prioritize proximity to rest facilities and offer premium access. With a significant financial backing of $650 million, Greenlane aims to address the infrastructure needs for fleet electrification and alternative fuels. The company's commitment to locating facilities where carriers require them most reflects their customer-centric approach to expanding the refueling network for heavy-duty trucks.
