The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) of Hong Kong and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec Corp) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Development and Application of Hydrogen Energy in Hong Kong. The MoU aims to strengthen collaboration between the two parties in promoting the development, demonstration of application, and capacity building of the hydrogen energy industry. Sinopec Corp will construct a green hydrogen production facility at a restored landfill of the EPD to demonstrate the production of hydrogen for the local market. The signing of the MoU is seen as a significant step towards positioning Hong Kong as a demonstration base for the national development of hydrogen energy. The collaboration also includes promoting public awareness of green hydrogen technology and showcasing achievements in the national hydrogen energy industry. Both parties aim to leverage technology and expertise to swiftly complete the green hydrogen project and establish Hong Kong as a demonstration base for green hydrogen technology. Sinopec Corp plans to utilize its technological advantages in green hydrogen production to support the HKSAR Government in advancing hydrogen energy development. The partnership envisions the expansion of hydrogen energy to a large, industrialized, and internationalized scale. The ultimate goal is to promote the export of China's green hydrogen technologies and products to gain international recognition and strengthen competitive advantages in the market.
