The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) of Hong Kong has partnered with China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec Corp.) to advance the hydrogen energy industry in the region. Through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), both entities will collaborate on developing and applying hydrogen energy. Sinopec Corp. will establish a green hydrogen production facility for demonstration at a restored landfill, supplying hydrogen to support various local applications. The partnership also includes promoting public awareness and education about hydrogen energy to align with global trends. Tse Chin-wan, the secretary for Environment & Ecology, highlighted Hong Kong's strategic position to showcase national hydrogen energy achievements and enhance public understanding. By acting as a bridge between China and the international community, Hong Kong aims to facilitate talent, funding, and development opportunities in the green hydrogen sector. The collaboration intends to boost the export of China's green hydrogen technologies and products for global recognition and competitive advantage, fostering a sustainable hydrogen ecosystem.
