Hyundai Motor Group has delivered a hydrogen-powered fuel cell support bus to the Korean National Fire Agency, a move aimed at enhancing operational capabilities. The vehicle, Hyundai's Universe fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), was developed in consultation with Korean firefighters and Jeju Island's Fire Department, aligning its design with the specific needs of firefighting services. Equipped with various essential features such as a cooking area, external air tent with power supply, high-pressure air and water guns, and storage for fire-resistant clothing, the bus is tailored to support firefighting operations effectively. The FCEV operates by receiving hydrogen and oxygen to generate electricity on Jeju Island, leveraging green hydrogen from the region's production complex. This initiative underscores Jeju Island's dedication to sustainable energy practices, aligning with its broader energy transition goals. Additionally, the announcement of a 30MW green hydrogen project on the island signifies a significant stride towards a greener future. Scheduled to kick off in Jocheon-eup by 2023 and continue until 2030, the project underscores the commitment to eco-friendly energy solutions and sets a positive precedent for future developments in the region.
