The Indian Army and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) have joined forces to conduct demonstration trials of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus technology, showcasing a commitment to green and sustainable transport solutions. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of General Manoj Pande, Chief of the Army Staff, and Mr Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, Chairman of Indian Oil, marking the initiation of a beneficial partnership. The Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology converts Hydrogen gas into electricity with water vapour as the only by-product, ensuring zero emissions. The Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus boasts a seating capacity of 37 passengers and can travel 250-300 km on a full 30 kg tank of Hydrogen fuel. Additionally, the Indian Army's collaboration with National Thermal Power Corporation Renewable Energy Limited for Green Hydrogen-based Microgrid Power Plants underlines a commitment to clean energy solutions in challenging areas such as the Northern Borders. A pilot project at Chushul will provide 24x7 clean electricity to troops, showcasing a significant step towards environmental responsibility and innovation in the military sector.
