The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Indonesia is facing challenges and opportunities in the development of hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles. The Director General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation, Eniya Listiani Dewi, highlighted the need for more detailed discussions on regulations and incentives to support this emerging technology. While the draft bill on new and renewable energy aims to provide incentives for climate mitigation and emission reduction activities, further refinement is necessary. Dewi emphasized the importance of addressing the price of hydrogen-powered vehicles, citing Japan as an example where they are sold at a relatively affordable price. This affordability factor could spark interest from automotive manufacturers to produce such vehicles domestically at more competitive prices. Currently, Indonesia only has two hydrogen fueling stations, which are seen as a positive step towards promoting hydrogen-based vehicles in the country. With ongoing efforts to establish a legal framework and incentivize the sector, Indonesia aims to navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities presented by hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles.
