The World Bank Group has approved the Development of Energy Resources and Mineral Sector Support Project (DREAM Project) to bolster Mauritania's energy and mining sectors. This initiative, with a strong focus on green hydrogen development, energy storage expansion, and mining industry reforms, aims to enhance the country's sustainable energy practices. The project includes financing for Mauritania's first large-scale battery storage facility to harness solar and wind energy effectively, improving electricity reliability. Through the DREAM Project, Mauritania seeks to achieve universal electricity access by 2030 as part of its Mission 300 Energy Compact. Moreover, the project will assess and promote the country's critical mineral potential, enforce the newly approved Green Hydrogen Law, and establish regulatory frameworks to attract private investments. Additionally, the initiative prioritizes institutional capacity building, technical education enhancement, and workforce development, especially focusing on empowering women in the energy and mining sectors. By collaborating with international partners and organizations, the World Bank aims to support sustainable development in Mauritania's mining sector, promote cleaner practices, strengthen governance, and ensure local communities benefit from resource development.
