Allison Transmission and GLS, a global shipping leader, have collaborated in Germany to evaluate the performance of the Hyundai Xcient hydrogen fuel cell truck. Since late 2023, GLS has utilized the truck to deliver over 100,000 packages in the greater Cologne area, and since March 2024, for long-distance trips between Cologne and Mannheim. This trial represents a significant step towards testing environmentally friendly propulsion technologies in everyday logistics. GLS Operations Manager, Oualid Hamza, highlighted the successful operation of the vehicle without any problems or breakdowns. The truck, powered by a 180-kilowatt hydrogen fuel cell system, demonstrates agility, precision, fast acceleration, and quiet operation, providing flexibility for night deliveries. Gero Liebig, GLS Regional Manager, praised the truck's maneuverability and quietness, making night deliveries in populated areas feasible. Allison's patented torque converter plays a key role in maximizing the truck's range and efficiency while reducing vehicle costs.
