Jekta and ZeroAvia Collaborate on Hydrogen-Electric Amphibious Aircraft Development
Key Ideas
  • Jekta partners with ZeroAvia to develop a hydrogen-electric version of the PHA-ZE 100 aircraft, aiming to increase payload and range for zero-emission flights.
  • ZeroAvia's power generation system is expected to extend the aircraft's range to up to 600km and boost payload capacity by one tonne.
  • The collaboration will result in an integrated fuel cell system including a hydrogen tank, offering operators the choice between hydrogen and electric battery power.
  • Both companies believe in the potential of hydrogen-electric propulsion in the seaplane market, foreseeing a future of zero-emission amphibious flights.
Jekta, an electric amphibious aircraft manufacturer, and ZeroAvia have joined forces to develop a hydrogen-electric version of Jekta's PHA-ZE 100 aircraft. The collaboration aims to address the limitations of battery technology by exploring hydrogen fuel cell power generation systems. Powered by ZeroAvia's technology, the PHA-ZE 100 is expected to achieve a range of 500-600km and increase its payload capacity by up to one tonne, offering operators enhanced capabilities for zero-emission flights. George Alafinov, CEO of JEKTA Switzerland, highlighted the importance of providing operators with a choice of fuel sources, with hydrogen offering a significant range increase suitable for longer regional routes. ZeroAvia's CEO, Val Miftakhov, expressed excitement about the resurgence of the seaplane market and the potential for zero-emission amphibious flights through hydrogen-electric propulsion. The collaboration between the two companies signifies a step towards sustainable aviation and innovation in the aerospace industry, with a focus on zero-emission solutions tailored for longer-range missions.
