NIST Updates Inspection Procedures for Electric and Hydrogen Vehicle Fueling Systems
Key Ideas
- NIST has announced updated inspection procedures for Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) and Hydrogen Gas Vehicle Fuel Dispensers based on NIST Handbook 44.
- The updates include expanded interference test procedures, code modifications, safety standards references, and new test report templates.
- NIST is also set to release an updated NIST Handbook 112 in 2025, providing comprehensive examination procedures for commercial weighing and measuring devices.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has released updated inspection and test procedures for Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) and Hydrogen Gas Vehicle Fuel Dispensers. The Inspection Procedure Outlines (EPO) provide a streamlined guide for weights and measures officials, incorporating the specific code requirements from NIST Handbook 44. The updates include expanded interference test procedures, relevant code modifications, safety standards references, and new test report templates for both EVSE and Hydrogen Gas dispensers.
Additionally, NIST is preparing to publish an updated version of NIST Handbook 112 in 2025. This handbook will cover examination procedures for over 15 commercial weighing and measuring devices. NIST Handbook 112, first published in 1973, serves as a comprehensive guide for device inspection, installation, and compliance with legal metrology requirements. It will also include safety notes, reminders, and a glossary of safety key phrases to ensure safety consciousness during inspections.
NIST aims to continue updating these procedures annually to ensure compliance with the latest standards and regulations. The organization will provide further revisions to EPO 30 and EPO 29 based on code modifications adopted by the National Council on Weights and Measures. The updated versions of EPO 30 and EPO 29 are available online, with more revisions expected in the coming months. Stay tuned for the release of the updated NIST Handbook 112 in the first quarter of 2025.
