SEFE and ACWA Power Collaborate on Green Hydrogen Production for Europe
Key Ideas
- SEFE and ACWA Power sign MoU to produce green hydrogen in Saudi Arabia for supply to Europe by 2030.
- SEFE GmbH is repurposing infrastructure for hydrogen transport in Germany, including pipeline conversion and offshore developments.
- SEFE holds a significant customer portfolio and is developing large-scale hydrogen storage facilities in Jemgum.
- The collaboration aims to establish a hydrogen bridge between Saudi Arabia and Germany, with initial target of 200,000 tons per year by 2030.
SEFE Securing Energy for Europe has partnered with the Saudi energy group ACWA Power to produce green hydrogen in Saudi Arabia for export to Europe. This collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding, seeks to establish a hydrogen bridge between the two regions, with an ambitious goal of supplying 200,000 tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030. SEFE GmbH, a key player in this partnership, has taken over the activities of Gazprom Germania and now manages a substantial customer portfolio while focusing on developing hydrogen transport and storage infrastructure in Germany. As part of their initiatives, SEFE is repurposing its extensive pipeline network for hydrogen transport under the FLOW project, constructing a new hydrogen offshore pipeline known as AquaDuctus in the North Sea, and working on a significant storage facility in Jemgum capable of holding up to 500 GWh of hydrogen. This strategic move signifies a shift towards renewable energy sources and highlights the growing importance of green hydrogen in the global energy landscape.
