Wood to Lead FEED Study for EET's Pioneering UK Hydrogen Fuel Switching Project
Key Ideas
  • Wood appointed to conduct FEED study for EET's Hydrogen Fuel Switching project, leading to a final investment decision in 2025.
  • EET aims to become the world's first low-carbon process refinery, reducing emissions by 0.2 million tonnes per year at the Stanlow Refinery.
  • EET Hydrogen's FEED process for the HPP2 production project, with a 1,000MW capacity, is expected to generate 230,000 tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen annually.
  • Acquisition of Thornton Science Park to transform it into a hydrogen fuel technology hub, reinforcing EET's commitment to UK energy security and innovation.
EET Fuels has selected Wood to carry out the front-end engineering design (FEED) study for its cutting-edge Hydrogen Fuel Switching project in the UK. The completion of this study will pave the way for EET to make a final investment decision in 2025, with Wood overseeing the design of the hydrogen-ready crude distiller furnace system. EET is set to significantly reduce emissions at the Stanlow Refinery by 0.2 million tonnes annually through the use of low-carbon fuel supplied by EET Hydrogen. Additionally, EET has initiated the FEED process for its HPP2 production project, projecting a capacity of 1,000MW and an annual production of 230,000 tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen. Deepak Maheshwari, CEO of EET Fuels, highlighted the company's goal to establish the world's first low-carbon process refinery, ensuring fuel supply security in the UK and supporting employment in industrial regions. Wood's Senior Vice-President for UK Operations emphasized the critical role of the infrastructure redesign in facilitating the energy transition and enhancing UK energy security. Furthermore, EET's acquisition of Thornton Science Park demonstrates its dedication to advancing hydrogen fuel technologies and innovation in the UK, intending to create a state-of-the-art transition hub.
