In Chongqing, the Shuangbao Hydrogen Energy Comprehensive Station is leading the way in embracing hydrogen energy. This station, originally a CNG fueling facility, has adapted to new energy trends by adding hydrogen refueling capabilities to cater to the increasing number of hydrogen-powered vehicles in the area. The shift was motivated by the growing demand for new energy vehicles like hydrogen-fueled cars and buses. The station, part of the Chengdu-Chongqing Hydrogen Corridor, now supplies almost 500 kilograms of hydrogen daily, making it a vital component of the local energy infrastructure. The transition to hydrogen refueling presented challenges, particularly in ensuring a reliable hydrogen supply. Currently, the station sources its hydrogen from a supplier over 90 kilometers away, resulting in significant transportation costs and potential supply chain disruptions. To mitigate these challenges, the station plans to establish a local hydrogen production facility to enhance supply chain resilience and reduce operational costs. Despite the hurdles, the station manager, Zhang Ling, remains optimistic about the future of hydrogen energy in Chongqing. With government regulations easing and plans for localized hydrogen production, the station aims to meet the energy needs of heavy fuel cell trucks and light vehicles in the region. This strategic move not only ensures a steady hydrogen supply but also opens up new commercial opportunities in the burgeoning hydrogen energy sector.
