Clyde Hydrogen Partners with PlusZero to Demonstrate Groundbreaking Electrolyser Technology
Key Ideas
  • Clyde Hydrogen and PlusZero sign a memorandum of understanding to showcase decoupled electrolyser technology for green hydrogen production outside the laboratory.
  • Clyde Hydrogen's technology aims to produce high pressure green hydrogen at scale and low cost, potentially revolutionizing the industry.
  • The collaboration includes funding from the Scottish Government's EETF, plans for a green hydrogen production facility, and testing of next-generation electrolyser technology.
  • The partnership allows PlusZero to deploy Clyde Hydrogen's electrolysers and includes an option for PlusZero to purchase 10 MW electrolyser capacity.
Clyde Hydrogen has partnered with Hebrides-based green hydrogen producer PlusZero to demonstrate its decoupled electrolyser technology for green hydrogen production. The breakthrough technology by Clyde Hydrogen aims to deliver high pressure green hydrogen at scale and low cost, addressing a significant challenge in the industry. PlusZero, supported by the Scottish Government's EETF, will develop a green hydrogen production facility in Stornoway in collaboration with Clyde Hydrogen, the Western Isles Council, and the University of the Highlands and Islands. This initiative integrates commercial hydrogen production, technology training, and research in a unique manner. The partnership also includes PlusZero supporting Clyde Hydrogen by deploying a commercial demonstrator electrolyser and operating it for at least 6 months. Additionally, PlusZero has the option to purchase an initial order of 10 MW electrolyser capacity. The CEOs of both companies expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing the potential for cost-efficient green hydrogen production and the positive impact on decarbonization efforts.
