Egypt and France have inked a significant €7bn agreement to jointly develop and operate a green hydrogen production facility. While specific details on the project remain limited, the deal was officially confirmed by Egypt’s Transportation Ministry. The agreement was formalized in Cairo amidst President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Egypt, where he expressed France's dedication to supporting Egypt's stability, especially amid regional challenges. By 2030, Egypt aspires to secure a significant portion of the hydrogen market, with initial plans to export all its hydrogen as green ammonia. The country's national green hydrogen strategy, sanctioned in November 2023, outlines ambitious goals to create 100,000 job opportunities and bolster GDP by $10-18bn by 2040. Moreover, Egypt unveiled intentions to construct a massive $17bn green hydrogen plant in South Sinai, leveraging a 3.1GW solar array, with an estimated annual production capacity of 400,000 tonnes of green hydrogen.
