The Egyptian government is exploring avenues of cooperation with Siemens Energy to strengthen renewable energy and green hydrogen projects, as well as to advance digital transformation in the power generation sector. A meeting between Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, Siemens Energy's Managing Director for Africa Dietmar Siersdorfer, and the company's Managing Director in Egypt Ashraf Hamasa discussed strategies for reducing carbon emissions by employing a hydrogen co-firing system in gas generation plants. The meeting also focused on the operation of two gas units at the Burullus Power Plant using a hydrogen-natural gas blend, with plans to introduce a hydrogen production unit utilizing desalinated water at the same facility. This initiative aims to position Egypt as a frontrunner in the global green hydrogen market. Minister Esmat reiterated the ministry's dedication to Egypt's energy strategy, which prioritizes decreasing fuel consumption, enhancing energy efficiency, and transitioning the nation's power grid into a smart grid capable of accommodating higher renewable energy capacities.
