Evonik Industries AG from Germany has inked a deal with China Pingmei Shenma Group Nylon Technology (Shenma) to license its hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) production technology for the construction of a megaplant in Pingdingshan, Henan Province, China. The new plant will have an annual capacity of 200 kilotons and is set to become operational in 2026. Shenma, a key player in the Chinese chemical fiber industry, will utilize the H2O2 produced in the plant for its caprolactam production, a crucial precursor for nylon 6. This move is aligned with Shenma's expansion plans to increase caprolactam production to 600 kilotons per year by 2026. The adoption of Evonik's fluidized-bed technology will enable Shenma to adhere to stringent national safety requirements for H2O2 production. The partnership is hailed as a significant milestone in Evonik's hydrogen peroxide business in China, showcasing their dedication to the market.
