Global Expansion of Hydrogen Infrastructure: Saudi Arabia, Germany, Denmark, UK, France
Key Ideas
- Acwa Power and Sefe partner to supply 200,000 tons of green hydrogen annually from Saudi Arabia to Europe by 2030.
- Danish government commits $1.1 billion to develop a hydrogen pipeline from Denmark to Germany, with plans for further expansion.
- ITM contracted to develop a 10 MW green hydrogen production plant design for UK projects, enhancing deployment efficiency.
- Hydrogen Refueling Solutions collaborates with Toyota and Engie to introduce TMF technology for faster refueling of hydrogen vehicles in Europe.
Acwa Power and Sefe have entered a partnership to establish a hydrogen bridge, intending to transport 200,000 tons of green hydrogen each year from Saudi Arabia to Europe by 2030. Acwa Power will oversee the development, investment, and operation of green hydrogen and ammonia production assets, while Sefe will co-invest and be the primary offtaker of the hydrogen. Concurrently, the Danish government has pledged $1.1 billion to build a hydrogen pipeline stretching from Esbjerg, Denmark, to the German border. This initiative aims to kick-start hydrogen exports to Germany by 2030, with potential extensions to Jutland in the future.
In a separate development, ITM has secured a contract from a European energy company to design a 10 MW green hydrogen production plant, utilizing Neptune V plug-and-play 5 MW containerized electrolyzer systems. This design standardization will facilitate rapid deployment across various projects in the UK, showcasing Neptune V's efficiency. Lastly, Hydrogen Refueling Solutions, Toyota Motor Europe, and Engie have teamed up to develop Twin Mid Flow (TMF) technology, expected to revolutionize hydrogen refueling infrastructure. TMF technology, featuring a dual nozzle, promises to significantly reduce refueling times for both heavy and light vehicles, with initial testing set for late 2025 in France as part of the EU-supported RHeaDHy initiative.
