Green Cat Hydrogen (GCH) has announced plans to construct a hydrogen production facility in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, capable of generating 4,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually. The proposed facility, set to be situated at the Chapelcross Energy Transition Zone near Creca, is currently undergoing preliminary engineering and environmental assessments. Expected to play a vital role in decarbonizing various sectors like food and drink production, manufacturing, and public services, the plant will also be linked to newly built solar installations to enhance renewable energy generation. This initiative aligns with the UK Government's strategy to repurpose the Chapelcross nuclear site into a green energy center, with GCH's project complementing this vision and positioning the area as a significant hub for hydrogen technology. Prior to submitting a formal planning application, GCH will conduct two public consultation events to engage with the community and receive input. The CEO of GCH, Gavin Catto, expressed optimism about the project's potential and emphasized its importance in the broader context of the Chapelcross rejuvenation. South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) lauded GCH's proposal, underlining the region's attractiveness for investment and business opportunities. Officials believe that the Chapelcross location, strategically located in the UK, symbolizes innovation in energy production and reflects the region's commitment to environmental sustainability and economic growth.
