Hyundai Motor Group has announced a three-year partnership with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore to focus on hydrogen energy research and advanced energy systems. The collaboration will also involve A*STAR, the Agency for Science, Technology and Research. Singapore, a city-state with limited natural resources, aims to leverage Hyundai's expertise in hydrogen production and fuel-cell vehicles to explore technical solutions suitable for its urban environment. The partnership aims to address Singapore's heavy reliance on natural gas for 95% of national-grid power generation, promoting the country's transition towards carbon neutrality. By establishing a corporate lab programme, the collaboration aligns with Singapore's Smart Nation vision, emphasizing the importance of industry partnerships in developing solutions for real-world challenges. Professor Lam Khin Yong from NTU stressed the significance of industry collaboration in developing relevant solutions, particularly for achieving carbon neutrality. Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre Singapore (HMGICS) aims to accelerate research in innovative technologies to enhance the commercial viability of sustainable mobility solutions. Singapore's Second Minister for Trade & Industry, Dr Tan See Leng, joined senior representatives from Hyundai Motor Group, NTU, and A*STAR for the signing ceremony, highlighting the commitment to advancing hydrogen energy research. This collaboration holds promise in driving sustainable advancements in the automotive industry and contributing to Singapore's environmental goals.
