India and Germany have jointly launched a significant initiative, the Indo-German Green Hydrogen Roadmap, aimed at accelerating the adoption of green hydrogen to meet clean energy goals globally. The launch took place following the Seventh Intergovernmental Consultations between the two countries in New Delhi. This roadmap will facilitate the production, trade, and utilization of green hydrogen, contributing to the fight against climate change. Green hydrogen, produced through the electrolysis of water using renewable energy, offers a sustainable and clean fuel option with minimal greenhouse gas emissions. It has diverse applications, including decarbonizing industry, transportation, and power generation. The roadmap will guide efforts across various sectors to promote green hydrogen production and storage. India's emphasis on green hydrogen stems from its goal to achieve energy independence by 2047 and net zero emissions by 2070. The country sees green hydrogen as a crucial element in transitioning to renewable energy sources, especially in industries like steel, cement, and refining. With the launch of the National Green Hydrogen Mission in 2023, India aims to become a global leader in green hydrogen production, leveraging its abundant solar and wind potential. The Indo-German Green Hydrogen Roadmap is a result of extensive stakeholder consultations and is part of the broader India-Germany Green and Sustainable Development Partnership. This initiative marks a significant step towards sustainable energy development and collaboration between the two nations, setting the stage for a greener and more energy-efficient future.
