India, as revealed at the India Energy Week 2025, is set to produce 5 million metric tonnes of hydrogen by 2030 with a significant $96 billion investment in the hydrogen sector. The Union Petroleum Minister highlighted the strategic energy transition plan that involves integrating hydrocarbons and renewables to ensure energy affordability, security, and sustainability. Additionally, India aims to boost the share of natural gas in its energy mix and expand refining and petrochemicals by $30 billion. The country plans to leverage its abundant resources and biofuel feedstock to meet its energy demands while advancing clean energy technologies. The Minister underscored the importance of resilient supply chains, pointing out vulnerabilities in critical minerals, semiconductors, and battery materials. He stressed the need for diversification, battery recycling, and advancements in alternative battery technologies like sodium-ion and solid-state chemistries to mitigate supply chain disruptions. India's efforts in hydrogen-based mobility solutions were demonstrated through a hydrogen bus ride as part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to position India as a global hydrogen hub. Projects include blending hydrogen with natural gas, promoting industrial decarbonization, and expanding hydrogen-based transportation solutions.
