MAIRE Secures US$125 Million Contract for Hydrogen Plant in Malaysia
Key Ideas
  • MAIRE, through KT - Kinetics Technology and NEXTCHEM, secures a US$125 million contract to build an HPU in Johor, Malaysia by 2028.
  • The hydrogen plant will be part of a biorefinery within Pengerang Integrated Complex, producing 38,000 normal metric cubes per hour of hydrogen.
  • The biorefinery aims to process raw materials like used vegetable oils and animal fats to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and other bio-based products.
  • MAIRE's use of NX Reform technology underscores its commitment to advancing low-carbon fuels and supporting the energy transition towards sustainability.
MAIRE has announced a significant contract win in Malaysia, where KT - Kinetics Technology, with the support of NEXTCHEM, will build a Hydrogen Production Unit (HPU) in Johor. The HPU, to be located within the Pengerang Integrated Complex, will utilize NEXTCHEM's NX Reform technology to produce 38,000 normal metric cubes per hour of hydrogen. This hydrogen is crucial for the biorefinery's conversion processes, which will focus on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production. With an expected operational date in 2028, the plant represents an investment of around US$125 million. MAIRE's CEO, Alessandro Bernini, highlighted the company's commitment to delivering innovative solutions that promote the transition to low-carbon fuels and support clients like PETRONAS in developing cutting-edge SAF production facilities. The project aligns with MAIRE's strategy of fostering renewable fuel production and contributing to a more sustainable future through the utilization of advanced and efficient technologies.
