MIBGAS has introduced the first Iberian renewable hydrogen price index at 5.85 €/kg (equivalent to 148.36 €/MWh), which will be updated weekly on the website www.greenenergy.mibgas.es. The index, known as MIBGAS IBHYX, aims to represent the production cost of renewable hydrogen in the Iberian Peninsula, providing a reliable and non-manipulable signal for the market. This initiative stems from a working group led by MIBGAS, comprising Spanish and Portuguese stakeholders across the hydrogen value chain. The methodology employed focuses on defining the production price of renewable hydrogen in the region, with future plans to determine the demand price to gauge market liquidity. The development of the MIBGAS IBHYX index underscores the commitment of MIBGAS to promote the renewable gases market, particularly renewable hydrogen, which is currently underdeveloped. The group's efforts include defining a model plant for renewable hydrogen production and calculating the levelized cost of hydrogen. MIBGAS's advanced calculation model for the levelized cost of renewable hydrogen integrates financial variables associated with the project and the cost of renewable electricity production. Alongside the price index, MIBGAS has launched a microsite and branding focused on renewable gases initiatives, offering information on renewable gases, energy efficiency, regulations, and trading services. The microsite will also feature historical index data, calculation methodology, and relevant updates.
