MOL Group's Sustainable Innovation: Upgrading Hydrogen Filling Station in Bratislava
Key Ideas
  • MOL Group upgraded the hydrogen filling station in Bratislava, extending buses' range by 40% and enhancing refuelling efficiency for buses and trucks.
  • The cooperation between Messer Slovnaft s.r.o. and the upgrade of the station play a crucial role in developing Slovakia's hydrogen infrastructure.
  • Hydrogen as a fuel offers benefits like zero emissions, quiet operation, fast refuelling, and longer range, making it a sustainable choice for public transport and freight.
  • MOL Group's strategic goal is to support the green transition by making operations more sustainable with alternative energy sources like hydrogen, in addition to achieving net carbon neutrality by 2050.
MOL Group has taken a significant step towards developing hydrogen mobility by upgrading the hydrogen filling station in Bratislava, Slovakia. The station, operated by Messer Slovnaft s.r.o., now offers a higher pressure of 350 bar for efficient refuelling of hydrogen buses and trucks, leading to a 40% increase in the buses' range. This upgrade contributes to the more sustainable and efficient operation of public transport in Bratislava. Hydrogen vehicles, known for zero emissions, quiet operation, fast refuelling, and long range, are considered a sustainable alternative primarily for freight and public transport. MOL Group's strategic vision includes supporting the green transition by making industrial operations and the mobility sector more sustainable through alternative energy sources like hydrogen. The company has already launched a green hydrogen plant in Százhalombatta, aiming to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and produce clean, carbon-neutral hydrogen for fuel. Preparations are also in progress to establish similar electrolysis units in Bratislava and Rijeka. MOL Group's commitment to becoming net carbon neutral by 2050 aligns with its goal of shaping a low-carbon circular economy in Central and Eastern Europe.
