Air Liquide has announced a renewable hydrogen production project at TotalEnergies' La Mède site in France. Under a long-term contract, Air Liquide will construct and operate a new hydrogen production unit with a capacity of 25,000 tonnes per year, using recycled biogenic byproducts to produce renewable hydrogen for TotalEnergies' biorefinery. The project, set to be operational in 2028, involves an investment exceeding 80 million euros and aims to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions by around 130,000 tonnes annually at the biorefinery. This initiative marks a crucial step in Air Liquide's strategy towards decarbonization, focusing on offering various decarbonization solutions to meet the challenges of the climate emergency. By supporting TotalEnergies in decarbonizing its operations, Air Liquide strengthens its position in the Fos-sur-Mer basin and showcases its commitment to promoting sustainability and renewable energy. The project not only enhances the renewable hydrogen ecosystem in the region but also reinforces Air Liquide's role as a major player in driving industrial decarbonization and advancing low-carbon mobility.
