TotalEnergies has made a significant move in the renewable energy sector by acquiring a 50% stake in RWE's 795MW offshore wind farm. This acquisition will enable TotalEnergies to produce 40,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. Following its success in winning the Dutch Hollandse Kust West VII tender, the company plans to allocate part of the renewable electricity generated from this project to power 350MW electrolyser projects. By leveraging the green hydrogen from the OranjeWind project, TotalEnergies aims to replace grey hydrogen at its European refineries, signaling a commitment to decarbonization. The offshore wind farm, situated 53km off the Dutch coast, is not only set to support the Dutch grid's stability but also play a crucial role in the transition to cleaner energy sources. Construction is scheduled to commence in 2026, with full operations expected to begin in 2028, marking a significant milestone in TotalEnergies' efforts towards sustainability and renewable energy production.
