The Albanese Labor Government has announced a $3 million investment in TAFE Queensland to enhance electric vehicle (EV) training. The funding, sourced from the TAFE Technology Fund, aims to benefit over 5,000 trade students and prospective employers across Queensland. The investment will facilitate the installation of state-of-the-art training equipment such as Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) training simulators, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, used BEVs, 3D scanners, and virtual reality headsets at TAFE Queensland's Acacia Ridge and Bohle campuses in Brisbane South and Townsville respectively. The BEV Training Simulator project is designed to provide hands-on learning opportunities for students, focusing on EV maintenance and repair skills. This initiative is crucial in supporting the development of renewable energy skills as Australia works towards achieving net zero emissions and a Future Made in Australia. The TAFE Technology Fund, amounting to $50 million, is dedicated to upgrading and expanding TAFE facilities nationwide, including laboratories, workshops, and simulated learning environments. Past investments in Queensland through the TAFE Technology Fund have included projects such as the Pimlico Visual Arts Precinct Expansion, Loganlea Clinical Laboratory Expansion, and Thursday Island Health Hub. These projects received significant support from the Albanese Government, with a total funding of $11.8 million, including contributions from the state government. This recent investment builds upon the success of the Fee-Free TAFE initiative, which saw over 355,000 Australians benefiting from free enrollment in 2023. In Queensland alone, nearly 70,000 individuals enrolled in Free TAFE last year, with a notable proportion hailing from regional and remote areas. The Albanese Government's commitment to investing $502.9 million will create an additional 320,000 Fee-Free TAFE and VET places across the country over the next three years.
