Abu Dhabi's Integrated Transport Centre, also known as Abu Dhabi Mobility, has taken a significant step towards sustainability by launching its innovative Green bus service. The service features new buses powered by clean hydrogen and electric energy, marking the initiation of the Green Bus Programme. The primary objective of this program is to convert Abu Dhabi Island into a green public transport zone by 2030. The Green Bus service will specifically operate on Route 65, connecting Marina Mall with Shams Boutik on Al Reem Island. The assessment phase for the Green Bus Programme, which commenced in November 2023, is set to continue until June 2025. During this period, bus operators and technicians will undergo extensive training in hydrogen and electric bus technologies. This training includes practical sessions in countries like South Korea and China to better equip them for the transition. By transitioning the public bus fleet in Abu Dhabi from diesel fuel to renewable energy sources, the initiative anticipates a significant reduction of more than 100,000 metric tonnes of annual carbon dioxide emissions in the emirate. This move not only aims at environmental benefits but also represents a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors. Abu Dhabi Mobility has partnered with both international and local stakeholders to establish new benchmarks for green buses, promoting sustainable practices in the transport sector.
