The LPMA Bastia recently introduced Alba, the first hydrogen-electric fishing training vessel in France, marking a significant step towards sustainable maritime operations. Designed by MAURIC, a prominent naval architecture and marine engineering company, Alba has the potential to transform the future of fishing by offering a zero-emission solution. Inaugurated with the support of a €4 million grant from the France 2030 Recovery Plan, Alba was the result of collaboration with CN GATTO Shipyard, Alternative Energies, and EODev, who provided the innovative hydrogen fuel cell technology. The vessel's design, responding to LPMA Bastia's request for hydrogen-powered vessels, promises improved efficiency and adherence to environmental standards. Alba's features include a maximum speed exceeding requirements, 11-hour autonomy at a favorable speed, and versatile configurations for different fishing training methods. The vessel can host up to 12 students and 2 instructors, offering a practical learning environment with adjustable winches and tackles. Notably, Alba's fuel cell room is spacious, accommodating both learning and operational needs comfortably. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, including REXH2 Range Extenders and battery packs, Alba's propulsion system boasts redundancy and efficiency. After successful trials, Alba arrived at Bastia's port, showcasing its operational readiness. Guillaume Rocolle from MAURIC highlighted the technological innovations integrated into the project, emphasizing the vessel's groundbreaking status. Fabrice Ghozlan praised Alba as France's first professional vessel powered solely by hydrogen and batteries, underlining the nation's expertise in eco-friendly maritime solutions. Alba's arrival signifies a new era in sustainable fishing practices, setting the stage for future hydrogen-powered vessels to revolutionize the maritime industry.
