Emirates Transport, the leading transport provider in the United Arab Emirates, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Al Ghurair Motors at the GITEX Global 2024 event to begin pilot testing hydrogen and electric commercial vehicles. The agreement aims to accelerate the adoption of eco-friendly transportation solutions by exploring and promoting alternative-fuel commercial vehicles. With a focus on sustainability, the partnership will assess the feasibility of these vehicles through pilot projects to drive innovation and establish the UAE as a pioneer in sustainable transportation technologies. Emirates Transport's initiative to test commercial hydrogen and electric vehicles marks a significant milestone in the UAE's efforts to incorporate green fuel into its transportation sector, aligning with the national goal of electrifying half of all vehicles by 2050. This move also supports the country's strategic objective of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, with hydrogen-powered vehicles playing a crucial role in reducing transport emissions. By collaborating with Al Ghurair Motors and manufacturers, Emirates Transport plans to introduce increasing numbers of alternative-fuel vehicles into its fleet, catering to clients from various sectors. The partnership includes providing technical training to staff and equipping workshops across the UAE to maintain these advanced vehicles effectively. Both companies are committed to exploring and developing infrastructure such as EV charging and hydrogen fueling technology to support the pilot projects, aiming for future scalability.
