South Staffordshire College in Penkridge has inaugurated a new Net Zero Energy Training Centre, aimed at upskilling the local workforce in green technologies. Supported by a £1.6 million Getting Building Fund, the Centre features state-of-the-art equipment like photovoltaic panels, electric vehicle charging stations, hydrogen boilers, and energy management systems. This initiative not only aligns with the UK's sustainability goals but also provides training for electricians, plumbers, vehicle technicians, and construction workers to transition to net zero energy solutions. The launch event, graced by Chief Executive Principal Claire Boliver and Councillor Kath Perry MBE, highlighted the significance of preparing the workforce for a green future. Neil Sambrook, Faculty Director, emphasized the role of the Centre in inspiring and educating the next generation workforce. The partnership between South Staffordshire College and the local council in promoting sustainable technologies was exemplified by the purchase of a hydrogen vehicle rig through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, demonstrating a commitment to providing cutting-edge education and training for a more sustainable world.
