France celebrates a significant milestone with the launch of Alba, the nation's pioneering hydrogen-electric fishing training vessel. This innovative vessel, developed with a €4 million grant from the France 2030 Recovery Plan, is designed to redefine sustainable fishing operations. Alba, constructed by a consortium including CN GATTO Shipyard and EODev, is powered by advanced hydrogen fuel cell technology, utilizing REXH2 Range Extenders for zero-emission activities. With impressive specifications such as a length of 19.95 meters, a maximum speed of 13 knots, and an 11-hour autonomy at 10 knots, Alba surpasses performance expectations while meeting high environmental standards. The vessel can accommodate up to 12 students and 2 instructors, offering flexibility in fishing training methods with features like removable winches and a spacious hydrogen system room. Equipped with two 70kW REXH2 Range Extenders, two 178kWh battery packs, and a hydrogen storage capacity of 75 kg, Alba ensures safety and efficiency through a fully redundant propulsion system. Following successful trials, Alba has proven its operational efficiency upon reaching Bastia's homeport, positioning itself as a model for France's sustainable maritime future. As France's first hydrogen-powered professional vessel, Alba symbolizes a significant advancement in green marine innovation, setting the stage for a zero-emission era in the fishing industry.
