India's Push for Green Hydrogen Excellence: Building a Sustainable Future
Key Ideas
  • The Government of India is inviting proposals to establish Centres of Excellence for Green Hydrogen under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, focusing on research and development.
  • These centers aim to drive innovation, sustainability, and energy independence by advancing Green Hydrogen production, storage, and utilization technologies.
  • The National Green Hydrogen Mission, with a significant budget allocation, is set to lead India towards clean energy self-reliance, decarbonization, and reduced reliance on fossil fuel imports.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in India has issued a call for proposals to set up Centres of Excellence (CoEs) for Green Hydrogen under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The objective is to establish world-class centers that foster innovation, promote sustainability, and enhance energy independence in the long term. These CoEs will play a crucial role in accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy by advancing Green Hydrogen technologies. They will serve as hubs for cutting-edge research, skill development, and collaboration among various stakeholders. The Government has allocated Rs 100 crores for the setup of these centers, emphasizing the importance of public-private partnerships. The National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in 2023, aims to make India self-reliant in clean energy and lead the global clean energy transition. By reducing dependence on fossil fuel imports and promoting Green Hydrogen technologies, the Mission will contribute to significant decarbonization of the economy and position India as a leader in the Green Hydrogen sector.
