The Hycel Hydrogen Technology Hub, located at Deakin University in Warrnambool, Victoria, has been officially launched as the first purpose-built hydrogen research, testing, and training facility. Covering a 4.5-hectare area and co-located with Southwest TAFE, the hub includes state-of-the-art facilities such as a product engineering development laboratory, three laboratory bays, offices, and community spaces. The focus of the hub is on advancing hydrogen technologies, particularly in the development of fuel cells for transport, heavy vehicles, trains, and boats. Minister D'Ambrosio highlighted the significance of the hub in accelerating the development of Victoria's renewable hydrogen sector, creating job opportunities in the region. With a $9 million investment from both the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments, the project is set to support around 200 jobs in regional Victoria over its lifespan. Beyond research, the hub aims to equip the workforce with skills and knowledge crucial for the hydrogen industry's growth, ultimately fostering innovation and economic development.
