A team from Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, is set to participate in the Shell Eco-Marathon Americas 2025 in Indianapolis, United States, with a vehicle powered by green hydrogen. The team, consisting of students from the State University of Western Paraná (Unioeste) and the Cataratas Energy Efficiency Group (GCEE), will compete in the Urban Concept category using a prototype that runs on green hydrogen. The hydrogen fuel is produced at Itaipu Parquetec, a unit highly regarded in the field. In a historic achievement, the GCEE team was the first in Latin America to qualify a hydrogen-powered urban concept vehicle for the competition. With a well-equipped vehicle and high hopes, the team aims to cover a 16-kilometer route on the Indianapolis track in under 35 minutes. The students, along with their coordinators, have been preparing diligently and have strategic partnerships with entities like the Government of Paraná, Itaipu Binacional, and Itaipu Parquetec. The team is confident in their improved project and is supported by various private partners as they aim for success in the international event.
