Nestle Purina PetCare, in collaboration with The Kenan Advantage Group (KAG) and Nikola Corporation, has introduced the Class 8 Nikola hydrogen fuel cell electric semi-truck to facilitate zero-tailpipe-emission deliveries of Purina products, including Tidy Cats cat litter, within California. The initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by promoting regional production and distribution while also decreasing the reliance on long-distance trucks. The truck, with a 500-mile range and quick refueling time, operates emission-free. Additionally, Purina has implemented solar drying technology at its Maricopa facility to reduce energy consumption in litter production. The company is also focusing on incorporating recycled content into its packaging to reduce the use of virgin plastics. Moreover, specially designed pail refill bags are being introduced to lessen plastic waste and encourage reuse. The goal is to have all Tidy Cats litter jugs made with 100 percent recycled content by the end of 2024. This initiative showcases a comprehensive approach by Purina towards sustainability and eco-friendly operations in its manufacturing and distribution processes.
