The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) is taking bold steps to incentivize the adoption of hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles as part of its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. By offering substantial subsidies totaling ₩29.5 million per vehicle, the city aims to support the purchase of 160 hydrogen passenger cars. These incentives not only cover a significant portion of the purchase cost but also include tax reductions, toll exemptions, and discounts on public parking fees. The initiative comes in response to the transportation sector's contribution of 17.6% to Seoul's greenhouse gas emissions, highlighting the urgency for sustainable mobility solutions. One of the key beneficiaries of the subsidy is the Hyundai NEXO SUV, known for its impressive range of 609 km per charge. This move aligns with SMG's vision to establish a robust hydrogen mobility ecosystem in the city. Alongside the financial support, purchasers of hydrogen cars can also enjoy additional benefits such as tax reductions up to ₩6.6 million and exemptions from Namsan Tunnel congestion tolls, further encouraging the shift towards eco-friendly transportation. To streamline the subsidy application process, hydrogen vehicle manufacturers and dealers will handle the necessary procedures, simplifying the steps for interested buyers.
